Racing to Make a Difference: Chalmers Ford Fuels Hope with Meals on Wheels New Mexico
When the community calls, we step up. See how Chalmers Ford helped drive real impact at the Meals on Wheels NM Celebrity Waiter event.
Chalmers Ford proudly supported Meals on Wheels NM at the 2025 Celebrity Waiter event, helping deliver meals and hope across our community.
At Chalmers Ford, we believe strong communities are built on compassion, generosity, and the willingness to roll up our sleeves when it matters most. As part of our Chalmers Cares initiative, we were proud to support Meals on Wheels New Mexico during their 2025 Celebrity Waiter Fundraiser—an event that blended good food, great people, and a whole lot of heart.
This year, our General Sales Manager Chris Taylor stepped into the spotlight as a Celebrity Waiter. Fueled by community support (and a healthy dose of friendly competition), Chris earned 2nd place for total donations raised.
Behind the Pit Wall: Preparing for Race Day
Held at Sandia Resort & Casino, Chalmers Ford was an event sponsor and fully embraced a racing theme for their table. Decked out in Wonder Bread and Old Spice racing uniforms, our team didn’t just show up—they showed out!
“Being part of something this impactful in the Albuquerque community means a lot,” said Chris. “Sharing this experience with my co-workers and friends made it that much more enjoyable.”
From decorating the table to rallying donations, the energy was electric. But don’t be fooled—waitering at this event is no easy lap.
“I had a blast and loved helping. To be of service, even for a few hours, is an honor,” Chris added. “Pro tip: wear comfortable shoes. You walk a ton!”
Fueling Our Community’s Engine
Meals on Wheels New Mexico delivers more than meals—they provide daily lifelines for seniors experiencing food insecurity and social isolation. Just $7.20 funds a hot meal and a meaningful visit, often from the only person a client may see that day.
“You really don’t understand how important the service is until you get to experience it,” Chris shared. “The Meals on Wheels team gives you a peek behind the curtain. You walk away with deeper appreciation for their dedication—and for the people they serve.”
Our Director of Finance, Anne Marie Martinez, echoed this connection: “It’s a wonderful feeling to help those in need, and to be a friendly face to these appreciative clients. Especially when we might be the only ones they see that day—it just feels great.”
The Final Lap: Bringing It Home
The Chalmers team didn’t just serve—they competed. From push-up contests to a chicken dance showdown, they pulled out all the stops to help Chris climb the leaderboard.
“We’re all so competitive,” Anne Marie laughed. “We did everything we could to get him to place—and it was all worth it to hear his name called!”
The night ended on a high note when Anne Marie contributed a $1,000 final tip, pushing the total raised at the event over $314,000.
Chris raised an incredible $13,914, directly providing 1,855 meals to local seniors.
He summed it up with a nod to Ricky Bobby: “Second is the first loser!” he joked. “But seriously, the feeling was surreal. I’m so grateful to everyone for their incredible support and HUGE effort.”
